Southwest Desert Ridges and Distant Butte Colour Landscape Wall Art
Red Earth Undulations Beneath a Clear Blue Sky
The low ridges are the main subject here. They fold across the foreground in red, pink and muted grey-green bands, with a flat-topped butte sitting farther back against the sky. I like how the land carries so much variation beneath a simple blue upper frame.
Each nearby ridge has its own curve and surface detail. Shallow channels run down the slopes, while darker bands pass across them at different heights. The repeated forms create a route into the distance without a road or trail. Farther back, the terrain becomes flatter before the butte rises above the horizon as a clear, compact shape.
I photographed this American Southwest desert scene in 2011. The colour is warm without being uniform: pale slopes sit beside redder ones, and cooler strips interrupt the earth tones. Keeping the sky clear and open gives those changes room to stand out. I like moving between the larger pattern of rolling forms and the fine lines etched into each surface.

The photograph offers a strong overall pattern from farther away and finer detail as you approach. For me, its appeal lies in the repeated ridges leading toward that solitary butte, with each change in colour and contour making the land feel more distinct.
