My wife and the dogs were still asleep in our Sprinter van, leaving me free to wander along the harbour. The village was deserted, and the water was almost still. That quiet stretch of the morning gave me time to look past the lighthouse toward the fishing sheds, houses, and their reflections along the rocky shore.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIn this black and white photograph, a small shed stands on pilings beside a larger gabled house. More buildings follow the shoreline to the right, while the lighthouse remains visible beyond the rooftops on the left. I liked how the pale walls and dark roofs repeated in the water below them. Small ripples loosen those reflections, giving the lower part of the image a softer texture than the buildings themselves. Red hulls sit against the dark water, white cabins catch the light, and the blue-green house above the sheds adds another strong note. I included the traps and ropes along the left edge because they belong to the setting, but let the boats carry the centre of the composition. Weathered shingles, pale rock and small windows give the buildings plenty of texture. Below them, gentle ripples loosen the reflections into broken vertical marks rather than a perfect mirror.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eI like the contrast between the familiar postcard view of Peggy’s Cove and this quieter corner of the village. After working around the lighthouse, I could look more slowly here. The open blue sky gives the harbour room, while the rocks at the lower right bring the foreground close.
