Fine spokes cross one another around the reflective hub, while the tire carries a much heavier pattern along its outer edge. Beneath it, the darker ground provides a plain surface that lets the mechanical details remain clear. The upright window frame at the right adds another firm edge. Those pieces help enclose the more intricate details inside, while reflections in the polished surfaces add small changes of light and colour.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eFor me, this interior holds much of the appeal of classic car culture: a practical space made visually distinctive through colour, proportion, and detail. The photograph does not need a full view of the convertible to communicate that character. A close look at the wheel, gauges, and trim is enough. I like how the reflections change across those surfaces: a broad pale highlight on a spoke becomes a sharp glint on a small fitting. The worn texture of the rim adds another quality beside the smooth metal.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eI kept enough of the surrounding interior to make this a photograph of a car rather than an isolated study of shapes. A round gauge remains visible to the right, and the pale dashboard gives the wheel a lighter backdrop along that edge. The shallow focus keeps those details secondary. My eye returns to the steering wheel and the controls clustered around its centre, where the image feels most precise. The broad metal spokes stretch across the wheel, a narrow radio face sits above the instruments, and bright controls descend toward the centre. Beyond them, the passenger side falls into deeper shadow. That incomplete view makes the structure feel larger than the frame itself. The hub pulls everything inward while dozens of steel lines fan outward, crossing and overlapping until the geometry becomes almost abstract.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBlack and white was the obvious direction for me. Colour would have competed with the structure, while monochrome reduces the scene to steel, shadow and light. Against the dark sky, the illuminated edges of the wheel separate cleanly and the individual gondolas become small repeating forms around the curve.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhat I like most is the tension between complexity and order. There are cables, braces, supports and spokes everywhere, yet every element has a precise purpose. Nothing is random.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eNavy Pier is one of Chicago’s most recognizable destinations, but I did not want a conventional postcard view. I wanted to isolate the wheel itself and concentrate on the structure that usually disappears behind the experience of riding it. Working low and keeping the frame tight gave the circular forms room to overlap, turning a busy industrial subject into a study of repetition and depth.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe closest wheels occupy much of the foreground, their broad faces broken by dark patches and rough surface marks. Bright rims trace their edges, while the projecting axle ends introduce smaller cylinders among the larger curves. Further back, similar shapes become more closely packed. I liked the way each wheel remained distinct even as the rows began to merge into a dense arrangement of arcs, shadows, and small areas of reflected light.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eBlack and white draws attention to those differences in the steel. The worn surfaces absorb light unevenly, and the sharper edges stand out against the dark spaces between the wheelsets. There is very little surrounding yard in the picture; the wheels themselves establish its scale and rhythm. For me, the interest came from finding an ordered composition within all that material. That difference in scale turned a practical piece of machinery into a clear study of circles and radiating lines.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe large wheel has long handles projecting around a broad central disc, with lighter metal catching the edges and hub. Behind it, thick bars cross the darker part of the door. The smaller wheel repeats the form on a reduced scale, surrounded by bolts and other circular fittings on the steel panel. Scratches and uneven surface tones interrupt the smoother areas. I wanted enough detail in those marks to keep the photograph connected to the actual door, rather than reducing everything to a clean geometric outline.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eBlack and white emphasises the contrast between the dark handles and the brighter steel behind them. The worn hub becomes a strong centre, while the smaller wheel gives the eye a second place to settle. The hubcap’s broad circular face and central star interrupt a field of tightly arranged lettering. Ford, Chevrolet, Honda, Volvo, and other names appear in different sizes and styles, with scripts running beside block capitals and small symbols tucked between them. Several badges sit at an angle, breaking up the horizontal rows. The toned monochrome treatment makes their relief and surface wear easier to follow, while traces of colour remain within the subdued palette. The eye can move from the large circle into increasingly small details across the wall.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eI liked how individual pieces of vehicle branding became part of a larger visual arrangement. A familiar name might catch the eye first, then lead to a shape or lettering style I had overlooked. That is the pleasure of spending time with this photograph: the composition remains readable from across a room, but it offers much more when viewed closely.
