I like how little separates the water from the light; the ocean picks up the same warmth, but breaks it into hundreds of small reflections.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe nearest wave gives the scene its physical presence. Its crest is uneven, with a pale edge and a darker face beneath it. Beyond that, the water settles into smaller bands until it reaches the level horizon. That progression takes the eye from the active shore toward the calmer distance.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eI wanted the photograph to keep the energy of the surf as well as the colour of the evening. A view of the sky alone would lose that connection to the coast. Together, the two make a warm California seascape print with a clear focal point and a strong sense of light.
