Laundry hangs between trees above softly layered hills, joining everyday rural detail with a broad landscape.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe long clothesline caught my attention first on this hillside in Moieciu, in the Brașov countryside of Romania. I photographed it in 2011 as the morning settled over the hills. Shirts and larger fabrics hang between the trees, making a clear line across a landscape otherwise shaped by sloping ground and scattered growth.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eI remember the cool air and the quiet pace of the scene. I walked the slope before choosing this viewpoint, looking for a way to hold the lived-in foreground and the distant hills together. The laundry offered that connection: a familiar daily detail within a setting that opens far beyond the nearest trees.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eA patterned piece of fabric breaks up the smaller garments, and a white bathtub rests low in the grass. Nearby branches and the uneven ground add texture without making the scene feel crowded. Farther back, rooftops sit among trees, while the hills become paler as they recede. These changes in scale help the eye travel through the photograph.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eBlack and white brings the fabrics, bark, grass, and overcast sky into a quiet tonal range. I wanted to retain the ordinary character of the place rather than make it appear more dramatic than it was. What stays with me is the relationship between daily life and the surrounding landscape: a clothesline stretched between trees, with the Romanian hills continuing behind it.
