Tokyo Skytree gave me those two very different experiences of the same landmark. For this photograph in Sumida, I concentrated on the view from the ground after dark, isolating the tower from the surrounding city. The black sky allowed the blue and gold lighting to become the image’s main source of shape and colour.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe lower lattice rises from the edge of the vertical frame in bright blue. Warmer light defines the structure above it, interrupted by the wider circular observation decks. Higher still, the narrow antenna returns to cooler tones. I liked how those changes in width and colour organize the tower without needing another building beside it for comparison. The cross-bracing remains visible through the illuminated sections, giving the slim overall form a great deal of detail when viewed closely.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eI kept the composition centred and left ample darkness on either side. That surrounding space makes the upward line easy to follow and lets the warmer sections stand out against the cooler lighting. What interests me is the combination of a simple silhouette and a complex framework within it. As Tokyo wall art for an office, study, or contemporary living space, the photograph offers a recognizable landmark with a restrained background and vivid colour.
