I photographed this evening view in black and white, keeping Teylers Museum and the neighbouring facades above a broad stretch of reflection. The still surface was what first held my attention as I walked beside the waterfront.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eLight gathers around the windows and entrances, leaving the upper parts of the buildings in softer tones. The museum’s ornate front rises near the middle of the group, while the taller roof at the left has a distinctly different outline. Scaffolding around that roof remains part of the scene, alongside the older architectural details.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eI used the upright frame to give the water as much attention as the buildings. The waterfront edge makes a horizontal division across the picture, but the reflection carries the rooflines and lamps below it. Some shapes remain clear, while others soften into small ripples. Those slight changes keep the lower half from becoming a perfect duplicate.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe view gave me a quiet way to photograph the city after the lights came on. There is a great deal of detail in the facades, yet the water makes room around it.
