Pale foam spreads across the darker water, and successive waves create loose horizontal bands farther out. Their soft edges give the photograph movement while the level horizon keeps the overall composition steady.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eWhat interests me most is the reflection close to the beach. A warm patch of light reaches across the sand beside the cooler blue-grey surf, making the transition between land and sea feel especially clear. The dark strip at the lower edge provides a small anchor beneath that glow. There are few distractions, so the changes in colour and texture carry the image.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eI photographed this view in 2010, north of Los Angeles, after the sun had dropped below the horizon. The remaining light was enough to give the coastline a gentle evening mood without a visible sun in the frame.
